Farewell My Baba

My daughter is addicted to the bottle, and today we’re quitting it, cold turkey.  No more bottles, no more mama milk between meals, no more midnight snacks.  Just sippy cups at meals and water the rest of the time.

It’s not going well.

Wee Bear woke up at 4am asking for a baba.  Not surprising, since she barely ate anything yesterday.  We gave her 2 ounces of water in a sippy and brought her into bed with us, but she was not a happy bear.  Finally, at 5am we got up and gave her some baby cereal and baby food, which she DEVOURED.  Seriously, I have never seen her eat so much real food in one sitting.  We also gave her a sippy cup of her usual milk/formula mixture.  She gave me a “wtf mom??” look and threw it on the floor.  I tried two other sippy cups, but she was not having it.

Fortunately, the baby cereal was enough to satiate her, and we were able to go back to bed until 8am.

For her AM snack, I tried the sippy again.  STILL not having it.  WB did eat some more pouch, and a banana pancake.  She seems to be in a good mood, so I don’t think she’s hungry.

I’m worried about her staying hydrated though, so we’ll have to keep offering her water.  We also need to go out and buy more sippy cups.

Hopefully she’ll take the milk at lunch!

  1. Update: we caved last night and gave her two bottles. One right before bed, and one at 10pm. She had barely had anything to drink all day, and we were worried about her being dehydrated. I think this is a good compromise for us, at least until she starts accepting the sippy cups.
